After April 13th, with nearly 6,000 participants, Run Seal Beach is moving into the next phase of the charter, which is the grant period request and review. The event is planned, managed and executed 100% by volunteers, with no salaries drawn for any administration so that 100% of available proceeds are given back to the community each year.
If you are an interested qualified non-profit in the greater Los Alamitos Unified School district area (which is Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Rossmoor), you must submit a complete grant request by June 1st, 2013. There are some basic requirements:
• The organization should be focused on fitness and recreation
• Have a valid 501c3 status
• Develop a key set of concrete requests which are used to directly and substantially increase access or program components to individual participants.
• If you have been a prior grant recipient, you should have completed a “proof of performance” explanation to ensure grant funds have been used as requested in the past year.
In 2012 the organization awarded a new record total of $156,750 to a record 65 organizations that encompassed a wide range of community program needs. Since 2003, Run Seal Beach has given back more than $825,000 to our community, representing more than 89 organizations through the years, touching thousands of individuals.
Having recently attended the groundbreaking of the Los Alamtios High School track, race director Marc Loopesko said, “it is remarkable to see the fruition of good partnership between the community, school district and booster clubs. We are proud to have been a support of Los Al Track & Field for years. Hopefully this freed up funds to support the track.”
The Run Seal Beach non-profit charter has been in existence since 1999, although the organization has sponsored runs for 39 years. In 2011, Run Seal Beach established a portion of the funds to be distributed through Director’s Awards.
