Seal Beach, Calif. (March 22nd, 2016) – Run Seal Beach is quickly approaching and the time to register is now! With over 4,300 already registered and 300 kids for the 1K Fun Run, both will likely cap out. Race Director & Board President, Greg Phillips said, “We are thrilled with the community response. This year we have a strong platform of sponsors, good registration numbers and a team of volunteers second to none. We are expecting the best run for our town for our latest run with our new board and so many new sponsors.”

Though the directors, Greg Phillips, Dana Neucere, Tim Kelsey, Michelle Samuelson and Seth Eaker are the board, it is in many ways, the organizing committee which makes it all work so very smoothly. Returning to run the Kids Fun Run & Zone is Sue Dvonch. Working with Lauren Warfield, who has been part of the Run since she did the Kids Fun Run, they produce not only the most amazing little run with a big heart, they also keep all the children entertained and safe. In case you didn’t realize it, the Run has brought in over $1.3 million since the grant program was started in 2003. That means if you want to HELP, it is simple: participate in it, volunteer for it, be a sponsor, or be a vendor. We just want you to connect with the Run because 100% of the proceeds go right back into the Los Alamitos Unified School District region and non-profits in Seal Beach, Rossmoor and Los Alamitos.

Working closely on the Run course set up and even the rentals and related is Greg Phillips and Tim Kelsey. Greg works on the course set up and break down while Seth really manages the Start line area. We are welcoming Ryan Zigenbush to the Start line and course control team and also, Also working tirelessly at the Registration will be Kye & Elena Osti a new addition to our operational team. Often the Run is asked if there is a finisher medal – there is not, because all of our focus is on fundraising through our all-volunteer organization. We may have some other, new organizations working with the Finish line, along with our new photographer to get the winners properly photographed.

Coordinating from the police department is Officer Brian Grey, who has recently joined the race. Though a long day for him and his family, he diligently gives back to our town. He said, “though I am employee of the City, I am more happy to be a participant in such a great event and proud to say a member of Run Seal Beach organizing committee.”

Nearby, past president of the Chamber, Deb Machen works with, current Chamber board director, Gina Phillips to produce and manage the Vendor / Sponsor Village and t-shirt sales. Look for many of our sponsors and vendors in Eisenhower Park. Anytime Fitness will be executing the official warm up for the race and thanks to the generosity of our two new Gold level sponsors, Fresh Cut Creative and additionally, Golden State Medicare Health Plan and our other sponsors – much of the race prior to the event is fully funded. As a 100% volunteer produced, supported and executed, the Run would not be successful if not for the City of Seal Beach and especially the volunteers who all come out from the Lions Club and the Los Alamitos Unified School District – from booster clubs to students, teachers and parents.

This year, we will also have Pastor Don Shoemaker and, unfortunately due to a too early departure, long standing a capella singer with Pastor Don, John Heideman with not be singing the National Anthem prior to the start of the race. Thankfully, Pastor Don is doing it in memoriam, one more year for John, in his honor. Look for key remarks from Mayor Sandra Massa-Lavitt and a surprise speaker. Look in the following couple of weeks newspapers update for more details including street closures and neighborhood advisories.

So be sure to thank the volunteers who are your neighbors and friends! We all love Seal Beach and helping the community. Also, there are special discounts for our military families and active duty. Be sure to reach out to registration@runsealbeach.com for those rates. We will all be looking for you at the start line this year on April 9th at 8 am and 7:30 am for the Kids Fun run! If you haven’t, be sure to secure your runner’s bib for April 9th, at www.RunSealBeach.com and keep an eye out for more information.
